About Alligator Gorge

Please note: The Alligator Gorge section of Mount Remarkable National Park, including Alligator Lodge, The Narrows hike, and backpack campsites, will remain closed until further notice following the Wilmington Fire. Refer to our website for the most current information.

Mount Remarkable National Park offers a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature. From the 960 m summit overlooking Willochra Plain to peaceful creek beds lined with river red gums, it highlights the striking geology of the southern Flinders Ranges.

Walkers, cyclists and families can explore a range of trails and quiet spots where native animals are often seen. The park is part of South Australia’s protected landscape network and is cared for with Traditional Owners to support its cultural and ecological values.

Camp near Mambray Creek, hike valley trails in search of echidnas or ride the Willowie trail network and Remarkable Epic trail. For wide views, take on the Mount Remarkable Summit Hike or wander through time-worn gorges. Whether you’re visiting for a day or staying longer, there’s plenty to explore.

To protect the park, please stay on marked trails, take rubbish with you and give wildlife space.
Some areas remain closed after the fire, but Mambray Creek, Willowie trails, the summit hike and other key areas are open.

Plan your visit online to book a campsite, check updates and prepare for the conditions.
