About The Peterborough Historic Letterpress Print Shop

Run by volunteers, The Peterborough Historic Letterpress Print Shop offers tours to immerse visitors into the workings of a busy printing shop.

Since 1887, the Peterborough Historic Letterpress Print Shop has been recording the history of the Flinders Ranges and Outback region through The Peterborough Times, Quorn Mercury and Orroroo Enterprise newspapers and the numerous posters of events held throughout the region, reflecting its’ rich social history.

Businesses, social and sporting clubs, church groups and political histories – are all recorded in more than 25,000 job dockets which are being unpacked for entry into a database. Visitors can visit the area where this work is carried out at the end of the tour.

Visitors will also find three working presses, including the 1910 Wharfedale Press, which volunteers will demonstrate throughout the tour and explain how they operate.

Step back in time and book a must-do, hands-on experience, and make your own print using the hand-operated press when you’re in the Peterborough Historic Letterpress Print Shop!
