The Far North region is commonly referred to as the Flinders Ranges and Outback which comprises of around 80% of the state’s land area.

The overall region supports a population of 30,000, with the largest community being Port Augusta, which acts as a vital service centre for the region’s widespread and diverse, small and micro-communities.

The region incorporates two of Australia’s tourism icons the Flinders Ranges and the Outback, all of South Australia’s priority mineral exploration regions, and the crossroads of Australia’s national land transport network.
